ASK MR. PEDOMETER AND FRIENDS

August 8, 2018

Q:  Mr. Pedometer, some mornings, I just don’t feel like even getting out of bed.  Any advice for shaking off inexplicable depression?

A:  This month’s “Spry Living” newspaper insert may have an easy-to-remember remedy for you:  S.T.O.P. stands for

  • Stand up   Man laying in bed depressed
  • Take a walk
  • Observe your surroundings
  • Pick a positive thought

That “recipe” is included in a new book by Petra Kolber with the lengthy title of The Perfection Detox:  Tame Your Inner Critic, Live Bravely and Unleash Your Joy.  The author is a fitness pro who reminds us that nobody’s perfect.  She “offers tips and tricks to help you fight unrealistic expectations and negative feelings.”

If you cannot S.T.O.P., due to time constraints, then Kolber suggests, “[T]ap your feet. Anything that gets your body moving will work.”

Flexing your ankles may be a start toward getting out of bed and banishing the blues.  Worth a try?
